Dr. Maria Eugenia Leone Gold

Credentials that matter to admissions

Dr. Gold holds a Ph.D. and has spent her career in university biology departments, most recently as an Associate Professor. As Pre-Health Program Director, she advised more than 200 students pursuing careers in healthcare and directed the committee letter process for medical and dental school applicants.

That last credential is worth pausing on. The committee letter is the formal institutional evaluation that accompanies a medical or dental application, and most families never see how it is written. Dr. Gold spent years on the inside of that process: reading applications the way committees read them, weighing coursework, clinical hours, and personal statements the way admissions offices weigh them. Her advising starts from that vantage point.

Her advising philosophy

"Every student's path is different. My job is not to fit your student into a mold. It is to help them find their path, and then walk it with them."

Students know her as a demanding but warm mentor. She signs her notes "Eugenia," keeps her door open, and treats a change of direction, from pre-med to nursing, from dentistry to PT, as a discovery rather than a setback.
